Resident Coalition Submits Referendum Petitions – Over 3,000 signers support referendum on new Village Hall and Police Station.

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. – The Downers Grove for Responsible Government (DG4RG) coalition today submitted petitions containing over 3,000 signatures from Downers Grove residents in support of a referendum asking residents if they support spending $46 million or more on the proposed new Downers Grove Village Hall, Police Station, and Fire Station. This referendum question is scheduled to be placed before Downers Grove voters at the April 7, 2015 local election.

“Despite having only a few weeks to obtain signatures, we are thrilled to be able to submit nearly double the required number, collected by more than 50 volunteers,” said DG4RG Co-Chairman Tim Werner. “The outpouring of support from across the Downers Grove community clearly shows that residents want to express their voice on the proposed new Village buildings at the ballot box.”

Tim Harms, DG4RG Co-Chairman, added, “There’s nothing more American than giving citizens the right to express their opinion through a vote. It is clear that Downers Grove residents have a strong desire for referendum – support for this petition drive has come from residents across Downers Grove from all walks of life.”

To meet State election law requirements to place this referendum question on the ballot, DG4RG volunteers were required to collect signatures from a number of Downers Grove voters equal to at least 8% of the total votes cast for candidates for Governor in Downers Grove at the 2014 election, or at minimum 1,551 signatures.
The DG4RG coalition is comprised of Downers Grove residents who believe in transparent, responsible and responsive government which reflects the will of the people it represents.

Residents interesting in becoming involved with the DG4RG coalition should visit the website at www.DG4RG.com or contact the coalition directly at DG4ResponsibleGovernment@gmail.com.
